About

We are educating our children at home. We’ve got five of ’em: Colin (10), Mark (9), Jane (5), JackJack (3) and 14 month old Nicholas, a.k.a. The Pickle.

Sherri grew up in Texas and had never even heard of home schooling until her senior year of (public) high school, when she dated a home schooled guy (a real sweetheart).

Peter grew up in New Hampshire and wasn’t home schooled, but went to a tiny little private school that used a unit studies home school curriculum. He is disinclined to use unit studies with his own children.

This blog is, in part, an exercise in public record keeping. We do not expect that home educating will always be easy. We expect mistakes and false starts. Hopefully having them out there will encourage other home schoolers, as well as allowing those unfamiliar with home schooling to see what it really looks like once we put down the stereotypes.

We are using the trivium model of classical education outlined in Susan Wise Bauer’s The Well Trained Mind. We’ll let you know how it goes.
